Obverse: River god reclining left, holding cornucopia and resting upon reeds; Reverse: Peace, holding olive branch and standing right, resting arm upon shoulder of Justice, holding scales and scepter, and standing left. Despite the noted cleaning and some minor roughness near the edges, this VERY RARE type presents some subtle frosting to the devices. The Peace of Amiens settled the chaos that emerged from the French Revolution between France and Great Britain. This cessation was short-lived, however, as Napoleon continued his rise--a rise which would see western Europe embroiled in war until Napoleon's ultimate exile to St. Helena in 1815.
